Until July 2017, documenting the seasons of coastal Dorset. I'm a complete amateur so don't trust I'm always right. If ever you see I'm wrong - whether with identifications or in anything else - do say! Meanwhile . . . I've now moved to Halifax in West Yorkshire. Click on the link below to collect the new URL. FALLEN OAK LEAF, HAWS AND ELDERBERRIES ON A PATH - THE CLUES OF AUTUMN

This is a post left over from when Loose and Leafy was a work of fiction. Later, it evolved into what it is now - a blog about the wild plants of the South Dorset Coast.

To make sense (in so far as there is sense) of these early posts, you may like to take a look at Esther in the Garden.

Blogger has changed much in recent times. I'm not sure if the odd formatting on this page is because I was new to things then - or because flaws have crept in over the years.

* * *

There were lights in Esther's house last night.
I called the police - they still have keys from when they searched it.
No-one there - but her seed box was on the kitchen table and the lid was off.

Autumn Oak-Leaf, Haws and Elderberries on a Path - The Clues of Autumn . . . you have to peer, but they're there.

I like Hawthorn trees, especially the leaves and berries. When I was a child my mother would never allow any part of them in the house. She said it was very unlucky.

Hmmm. . . very curious about the lights being on at Esther's house!

Lovely photo Lucy. The signs of autumn are quickly becoming less subtle around here as the temperatures have dropped dramatically here this week.

Far Side - sorry to mess up your comments with doubles. I didn't realise until your comment was forwarded.

I was having trouble copying the code letters and needed several goes before I got it right. I expect that was how it happened.

Apologies.

My computer also keeps cutting to 'internet page unavailable' and doesn't look as if the comment has 'taken' - so I write it again when that happens then too.

. . . . I hope I'm not double-commenting all over the place as a result!

Lucy

(P.S. I'm writing this here, hoping you are having comments forwarded. I didn't want to add to the muddle by leaving yet another (!) on your blog.

I know nothing about the lights.

I do know I like the heading for your blog list"SOME THINGS I READ; SOME THINGS I BROWSE; SOME I MAY RECOMMEND". Funny.

Photography has always fascinated me. I realize art is subjective and you can see it right in front of your eyes yet most people just don't.
I enjoy your art.
Thanks for the welcome at blotanical.

Easy Gardener -

I love hawthorn too.

We have masses round here. You notice the trees in the spring. They go un-noticed in the summer, then sort of leap out again in the autumn.

In the photo, there are stains on the path where elderberries have gone missing. I suspect mice. Something like that.

Hello Garden Girl

Our temperatures have dropped only in the last couple of days.

Ceres demanded a warmer duvet so I've been having a change around of the bedding.

It's a mixture of being a bind and an exciting task because it marks the changing of seasons.

Patsi - I'm still having trouble getting onto your blog.

I think my computer is balking at the number of photographs.

I especially like the heirloom tomatoes one. It is so bright and cheerful and I wish I could grow lots like them.

(It loaded all but one of the photos so that wasn't too bad because I had plenty to look at!)

I'll be back to that one.
