IT DEPENDS ON THE BACKGROUND

Alexanders (Smyrnium olusatrum) and gorse against a blue sky.
Alexanders (Smyrnium olusatrum) and Gorse. May 2nd 2013

What we see depends on what is there. Obvious.

What takes our attention depends on our interest. Clearly.

Some things we delight in as we walk. Like the yellow of gorse or the blueness of sky.

A lovely post Lucy, I have not seen Alexanders; they look interesting and I know that they are edible too.

A great lesson in a small post. Seeing things in the realm of their surroundings measures all.~~Dee

Dear Lucy, There is so much to delight in if we are aware and notice the beauty of nature. Thanks for reminding us about this important truth.

Hello Everyone. Glad you liked the Alexanders and Blackthorn post.

Hello Toffeeapple. Alexanders smell good too. I understand you can make chutney with their stems but, as I have no use for chutney, have never tried it.

Hi Dee. This thing about context - it's one of the reasons why things can never be neutral.

Hello JoAnn. Pleased you like the photos.

Hello Icy BC. Glad you like the photos - though I'm not sure I share your confidence that surprises are always pleasant!
